Queering the Music Video

16 October 2026, 6pm

The Capitol, 113 Swanston St, Naarm (Melbourne)

Black-and-white photo of five people posed close together against a plain wall. At the centre, one person with big dark hair and gems on their face looks upward, mouth open.

$10.

The premiere of three d/Deaf-accessible music videos from The Legend of Queen Kong, a queer, genre-defying visual album twelve years in the making. Archival footage, animation, screen art and live performance turn the music video into a space for queer myth-making, visibility and access.

After the screening, a panel asks how the music video can be disrupted, remixed and reclaimed. Moderated by RMIT University's Cerise Howard, it features the artists and directors of Fat Fruit (Sarah Ward, Bec Matthews and The Huxleys), special guest Dr Stayci Taylor (RMIT University), and a video message from Deaf artist Asphyxia.

Sarah Ward and Bec Matthews perform live through the evening.

Auslan interpreters: Dr Kirri Dangerfield and Khang Chiem. Accessible to d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing audiences.

Presented by RMIT University in partnership with Fat Fruit.

Book on Melbourne Fringe.
